  City of Jacksonville
Geotechnical Engineer:   Civil Services Inc.
Construction Period:
  November 2006 through May 2007

Scope of Work:

Coastal Caisson installed (13,000) 6” diameter CSV columns to depths ranging from 15ft. to 25ft. deep.

The CSV columns were installed in conjunction with a load transfer blanket to support the new road bed for 400 ft. at each end of the new bridge. The CSV columns were installed on a 3 ft. grid throughout the footprint of the roadway. A 2 ft. thick load transfer blanket consisting of selected fill reinforced with 3 layers of a bi-axial geo-grid was constructed above the column heads to distribute the loads.

The columns were designed to transfer the load of the embankment and the traffic through layers of organic material into the medium dense sands at depth.
